Silent Vigil

The angel holds a silent watch, its ancient form guarding the departed while the living cling to rituals and symbols—fragments of meaning in the face of loss. Once, families lived side by side and gathered at gravesides for final farewells.

Today, scattered across towns and continents, we often exchange grandeur for simplicity. Rituals have grown lighter, less tangible, yet the weight of farewell—the finality of departure—still rests with those left behind.

Perhaps you, too, have stood in such silence—feeling the turbulence of sorrow, searching for something unseen, while the departed is at rest.

Happy easter chicken vibes!

We seem to be going through a chicken phase in the studio…💛Not sure if it is the Easter mood getting closer with fluffy chicks and painted eggs, or the rogue hens free-ranging through our neighbourhood (and driving the dogs wild), or maybe just the colder evenings when hearty chicken soup may feel like a hug. (And yes, Skye Head of Barketing and all the other titles that accompany her, confirms that she definitely loves chicken!)

Either way, here’s my latest painting: a hen with her chicks — a little nod to all the chaos, comfort, and charm these feathered friends bring!🐣

Still burning – dedicated to lives lost in runaway fires.

This is not the face of defeat. It is the face of someone who has given everything to hold the line. Only those who have faced the heat – wind whipped into fury, smoke thick in their lungs, eyes burning, hands blistered – can understand what it means to sit, silent, on scorched earth afterward.

To our firefighters: we see your courage, your fatigue, your humanity.

Respect begins long before the flames appear. Firebreaks and proper land care can save lives.

Please do not light fires in unsafe conditions. Please do not toss cigarettes or glass bottles into dry grass. Small careless acts may cause immense loss.

Featured painting: True Strength

This October, in honour of Mental Health Awareness Month, we celebrate the quiet courage it takes to speak openly about mental health. True Strength invites us to move beyond the myth of stoic resilience and embrace vulnerability as a form of power.

In a world that once celebrated cowboy toughness, we now understand that true strength lies in admitting and sharing struggles. In sharing our struggles, we reclaim peace—and remind each other that healing begins with honesty. Suppressing emotions undermines inner peace, a silent cancer that erodes a person’s well-being. Embracing vulnerabilities and challenges requires courage; it is where true strength is discovered.

Roam free and stay safe – original painting

In September 2023, a free roaming leopard in Nottingham Road made news headlines. In some people it stirred awe, in some fear—and for me, a sense of the wonder of wild Africa, and sadness.

I thought of the statue on Little Lions Head, marking the last leopard seen there in 1937.

May this leopard, and others, roam free and stay safe.

The painting holds quiet tension—movement and stillness, shadow and gold, asking what we protect, and what we let disappear.

This original painting, one of a kind, professionally framed, is available and ready to find its home.
