Getting ready to cool off!

The bateleur eagle has always struck me as one of the most majestic birds.  Painting this wonder takes patience — it first passes through what I call a ‘chicken stage,’ where the colours look awkward and unfinished.  Yet that stage is essential, because only by layering and deepening the tones can the eagle’s true brilliance emerge.  In the end, it felt like a journey of transformation, doing justice to a bird that embodies power and grace.

Description

The Bateleur eagle gracefully navigates the African skies with unmatched elegance.  Translating to “street performer” in French, the name Bateleur aptly describes the dazzling acrobatics displayed by this bird during flight.  With a fondness for sunbathing, they often take refreshing dips in water before spreading their wings to soak up the warm sunlight.  Unfortunately, this graceful bird is listed as endangered on the IUCN list of Threatened Species.
